Pain in the neck.....
In the mid/late seventies I was working on a Building project at Slough Slaughter House (Abattoir). The weather was hot and sunny all the while I was on site and one day I volunteered to carry a Jack-Hammer back to the tool-store purely because just before the store there was an office with a pretty young girl at a typewriter by the window who always looked out and smiled.
I picked up the very heavy Jack Hammer and with it on my shoulder walked across the grass in front of the office window and instead of going IN the Tool-Store as I should,I decided to 'flick' it forwards off my shoulder onto the grass,to show the girl how 'strong' I was!.
Unfortunately, for me,I completely forgot about the handle which hit the back of my neck and pinned me to to ground in an instant. It must have looked like I'd just been taken out by a Harpoon!A bit dazed,I picked the Jack-Hammer up off the grass with a struggle and dragged it into the Tool-Store trying not to catch the girl's eye who I assumed had wet herself laughing.
I didn't look her way again and for a couple of weeks couldn't have done anyway as my
neck was so stiff that I couldn't turn my head..........
