There's more to life than money........

When the Kids were young and at School it coincided with the late 80s early 90s recession and just as now lots of us were out of work, especially those like me who were self-employed.Obviously we didn't have a Virus to contend with or the kids at home all the time.
But we did have to try and survive on the 'peanuts' the law said we needed to live on and that meant cutting costs and consuming less.
We did do lots of things together though that didn't always cost money. When the sun shined we'd walk through the lane to the Railway bridge and stop for a little picnic, wave to the Train -Drivers who'd sound their horns and collect Dandelion leaves for the Rabbit.Sometimes we'd drive in our battered Mk 2 Escort to the woods at Marlow, take the back seat out and put under a tree for our snack break, collect fir-cones, throw a frisbee. On one occasion we watched a motor-bike scramble in an adjacent field, all free of charge.
I bought a tatty Tent from a garage sale and after repairing the many holes we had a week-end away at East-Creech,Dorset.The fact that we realised afterwards the front of the tent was missing didn't dampen  our mini-holiday and with the Sun shining and to save petrol,we walked over the hill-tops to Corfe-Castle,a lot of miles, with the kids "writing" their names with stones on the way.
Sometimes we'd be given apples and make jam, collect blackberries and make pies or have Fish and Chips on a friday as a treat.
With summer fading I'd collect fallen bits of Tree from the woods,of which there was plenty due to strong winds and hurricanes and by the time the kids came home from School we'd all muck in to stack up the fuel supply.
That recession went on a few years, hopefully this episode now will be over very quickly, but then as now we weren't making any money but looking back we made something more important, loads of memories........
