Thinking of School....

In the latter days of Secondary School,I and our pop-group members, spent most of our time making music.....
When the six weeks summer holidays arrived it seemed like six years at the time and the pile of homework I was given one year was shelved as we had a mass of time to deal with that crap...a whole six weeks which was spent outside wherever me and school mates fancied going and doing whatever we fancied doing being it watching the trains come through from the bridge in the lane, potato picking with or without the farmer's permission, making trollies out of wood and pram wheels and driving them down a steep hill, early morning mushroom collecting, fishing, climbing trees, jumping across the air raid shelters near us etc etc and doing my morning and evening paper-rounds and working in our local Garage saturday mornings and selling firewood to the local supermarket. But Saturday afternoons we'd go to Reading on the train and go in the music shops buying sheet music and playing their better quality guitars dreaming of maybe buying one eventually.
So the homework was only thought of during the last few days of the holidays, then eventually on the coach returning back  to school, still not done.At school I was asked why I hadn't done any homework and I replied "because I couldn't find a pen!"......"couldn't you BUY one!" came the reply..."I didn't have any money" I said....
Still, not having memorised the Canterbury Tales,or being adept at Algebra,or being au fait regarding Religious Knowledge,or knowing EXACTLY what happened in 1066,or being able to add up well didn't hold me back as I had a good command of the language and some clever dick invented the Calculator!.......and the Band played on......
